a state of trance.

i just got back into listening to trance. well, i can't really say "back into," because i never really listened avidly enough to it to have "left." anyways, call me lame, but this shit is actually pretty good. it's nice listening to music without any sense of pretense. i guess it's hard to be ostentatious when the music is void of spoken word. i find it fascinating how an arrangement of bass, treble and random inorganic sounds can come together to lead the listener through a range of emotions. i'm fairly sure drugs help. i just like it because when i put it on when i sleep, i'm out like my downstairs neighbor on some quaaludes. <--hahaha i crack myself the fuck up sometimes. i've been out of music for so long though that honestly, i can't make an authoritative statement on anything when it comes to music anyways, which leads me to my next point.

i've been given the green light to do a spotlight on everyone's favorite emcee slash producer slash all around nice guy, Coincidence, for incite magazine. i prefer calling him fuji, cuz i'm special. it will be my first and probably last work for the magazine, so i hope to make it special, not just for my sake but for fuji's. i'm open to any approaches on how to frame the story. should i do a day in the life of? a q and a? a profile? a review? a little bit of this? a little bit of that? bear in mind that i'm extremely limited in word allotment, so i can't be as verbose as i am on here. finally, i'm trying to get him to come perform at the magazine's release party next month at uci. will you guys come? if not, i'll delete you from my myspace...oh wait...

it's almost 2008 and it's once again time for me to decide what resolution i'll stick two for 2 months and then give up. i've decided that, it's come time for me to stop this lifelong habit that i've had of biting my fingernails. i don't know why i find solace in chewing keratin but i just do. hell, lebron james does it. if bron bron can, why can't ray ray? well, i'll give it a shot either way. above all, in the next year, i want to practice moderation. my entire life up to this point has been defined as either all, or nothing. through heartbreak, suffering and experience, it has come to my attention that one cannot go through life with this mantra. too much of anything can be hurtful, too little of something can leave one deficient and lacking. it's all about doing something just right. will you be drinking a ketel one and tonic with ray ray soon then, you wonder? we'll see i suppose. i've got a good thing going so far and at this point, it'd be hard for me to break it, so if you're special, and i <3 you, maybe we'll destroy our livers together.

in my van wilder-like stint in college, i've accumulated just enough credits to earn a minor in history. what am i gonna do with it you ask? what can you really do with a minor besides brag about it at some snobby cocktail party? so that's what i plan to do with it. apart from that, i think it's rather cool because beneath the shoes, the clothes, the sarcasm and the corny inside jokes that i find so funny, i am a huge nerd. history is fascinating to me. i really don't know why, besides the fact that we have so much to learn from the past. i can honestly say that this quarter, i've learned more than i have in previous quarters one, because i actually tried, and two, because i stepped outside my comfort zone a bit and took a course on the history of muslims and jews.

however, you can't really speak on the muslim or jewish faith without a nod to christianity, and this quarter has been spent learning about the complex relation between the 3 throughout history. i was fascinated to learn that these 3 religions, though seemingly so different, are so fundamentally related. i never knew that judaism, islam and christianity all share their faith in a single God. i've come to learn to respect islam and those of muslim faith, because it takes a certain type of humility and piety to be able to prostrate yourself such as they do before an abstract idea such as God. there's is a true belief, not to say that the others aren't. i think that it's easy in the storm of media spin and military conflict to misconstrue what islam and the people who belong to their faith stand for.

i really didn't mean to get as preachy as i did, i'm still up in the midst of an all-nighter writing a paper on the subject. i sometimes feel that my life is a perpetual all-nighter. that being said, i'm going to put on some trance and take a quick nap, we'll return to your regularly scheduled self-absorbed meaningless blogs next time. peacexup.
