thoughts of a dying atheist

i once strived to be the best at something.

one singular thing that no one else could do better than me...i foolishly thought that even if they didn't adore me for it, they would have to at least admire me.

over the course of repeated failures, it became obvious to me that this is an unattainable goal, and not even a particularly accurate one.

people who mastered their craft are despised. they are hated.

in ancient times, they'd be burned at the cross, drowned, drawn and quartered or exiled.

so...maybe it's not so good to be the creme de la creme.

still, it'd be nice to have some kind of talent or aspect that you excel in.
