new year, new quarter, new hope.

each time a new quarter of school begins, i have this foolish optimism that i might meet the perfect girl in one of my classes. each quarter, around this time, my dreams are crushed. it has never once failed. so far, this has held true.

my last beacon of light is in my literary journalism workshop, where i hope to see her again.

i don't know who she is. i just know that she's in the same track i'm in. she's up there in the literary journalism scene. so let's fucking hope.

oh yeah, and let's hope i have the balls to say something charming to her haha.

anyways, classes so far are hard. i'm taking advanced chinese which is a challenge, considering that all the knowledge that i have of the language is self taught.

as cool as literary journalism is, the thing i hate about it is having to come out with topics. i really go out of my way as little as possible when devising a story because i'm a lazy ass, and i guess that's why nothing i've ever written will be printworthy.

75% of a good story is what it's about. the rest is all up to the writer.

there are instances that this proves to be wrong, but those cases are rare. by rare, i mean hunter s. thompson, who gets sent to the weirdest places, gets into a drunken stupor or psychedelic acid trip and then writes as much about it as he can remember.

also, as the new quarter begins, i've begun mulling over how to approach the story that i'm going to be doing on keith.

this is where i need all your guys' input.

let us suppose that we were unfortunate enough to never have met fujimoto, and subsequently his alter ego, Coincidence.

if a journalist were writing a paper on him, why would you care? what would incline the journalist to want to do a story on him?

drop your thoughts, your feelings, your blasphemes and your praises. i take them all with the same open arms.

that's a challenge right there.

i dunno how similar literary journalism is to writing for the media, but news people call this the 'angle,' and it's definitely tough to come up with one.

one thing that i think is great about keith is that he is so extraordinarily nice, even if others don't think he needs to be. connecting how that relates to his music might be a challenge if you're going in that direction, but talking to his parents might be a good start for you.

his mom is super sweet, his dad charming and friendly. if you're going to talk about keith's music endeavors, it might be good to look to his dad because from what i've seen, it seems that he played a very inspiring role in keith's love for music. his dad's record collection is a testimony to this. a couple words from his pops might be able to help your direction.

also of note, that foo runs errands for his grams on the daily.

dunno if any of that helps, but good luck1
